Samba Heat 1-6

Inspired by dancers of the Salgueiro Samba school and the sidewalks of Rio de Janeiro, these gestural paintings vibrate with the rhythm of the city.  In a recent NYTimes article on Roberto Burle Marx, the great Brazilian landscape architect whose 1970 Copacabana shoreline design is celebrated world-wide, writer Holland Cotter states, "You don't walk the promenade, you dance it; its visual rhythms have a samba beat."  (May 13, 2016)
