The Belleview Biltmore
Tout passe, tout lasse, tout casse.
Everything passes, everything wears out, everything breaks. -French proverb
Biltmore Impressions 1-3; Requiem for a Condemned Queen 1-8
The Belleview Biltmore Hotel, in Belleair, Florida, graced us with its presence for more than a century. The hotel was, for many, a place of memories, a reference point, a touchstone in an otherwise rapidly changing world. For others it was a place of visual interest, an architectural wonder, and a source of magical delight. As with all things, however, time had taken its toll on the White Queen of the Gulf. In its final days, there was discord in its once lyrical qualities and a sense of impending doom evident in the rhythm of its gables, the light on its façades, and the shadows of its eaves…the bittersweet ballad of a life well lived.
Tempora mutantur et nos mutamus in illis.
Times change and we are changed with them.
